The theme for the Tyndale Fellowship New Testament Study Group in 2027 is the Book of Revelation and apocalyptic in the New Testament, and we are meeting from Wednesday 30th June to Friday 2nd July 2027 at the excellent conference facility of High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon, UK. It is easily accessible by train from London in about 20 minutes (from Tottenham Hale).
We hope to explore some of the key issues in reading the Book of Revelation as well as wider issues of apocalyptic in the New Testament. In relation to Revelation, some of the questions currently being explored include:
- Violence and the ethics of the Lamb’s victory.
- How “anti-imperial” is Revelation really, and how real was the crisis?
- Ecological hermeneutics of Revelation.
- Gender and the female figures.
- Reception history and contemporary political use.
In relation to apocalyptic in the New Testament, questions include:
- The “apocalyptic Paul” debate.
- Was the historical Jesus an apocalyptic prophet?
- The Synoptic apocalyptic discourse (Mark 13 and Matt 24)
- 2 Thessalonians 2 and the restrainer/man of lawlessness.
- The question of what constitutes “apocalyptic” in the New Testament.
We invite proposals of up to 200 words for papers on topics relating to the theme, addressing these issues or others of importance in the area. We are anticipating that, depending on the range of subjects covered, the papers might well form the core of a publication following the conference. We also welcome proposals for papers on any NT topic for an open session.
