Daily lectionary in your calendar

Screen Shot 2014-10-28 at 10.53.40Simon Kershaw of Oremus has once again provided a calendar containing daily and weekly lectionary readings which will fit in all major calendar applications. Download it for free here, where there is also an invitation to make a donation if you wish.

You can choose how much content you have in your calendar entry, and choose the platform (iCal, Google calendar etc) and then download the file, which on clicking will open and install in your calendar application. On iCal on my Mac, it adds the items as a daily all-day event, so appears at the top of the schedule for the day.

One tip: when you import, make sure it comes as a new calendar, rather than adding it into an existing calendar. That way you can delete and reinstall it if there is anything wrong, or if you decide you would like a different selection of content. If you add it into an existing calendar, you cannot change or delete it without losing all the other information already there.

If you use an electronic calendar on your computer, and it is synchronised with your phone, then it means you have the lectionary readings on your phone as well. Jolly useful it is too.

If you make use of the lectionary as an Anglican, you might also be interested in the Daily Prayer app available free through the iTunes store.

  1. Ian – google play is the Android equivalent of the iTunes Store. Apps are quality controlled in much the same way I believe.

  2. If you enable the links in the lectionary download you’ll get a link to the daily office automatically included, straight from your calendar, and you can navigate from there to any other day. Works just as well on a desktop computer as on iOS or Android.

  3. I think a digital calendar with lectionary on it is cool. Being about to read a verse or two of scripture really helps out in my day, and to put it on a calendar where I have a better chance of seeing it is very smart. Thanks for the post I will have to check it out.
