Christian Hope and the End of the World: Sat 10th November

How should we respond to forecasts of the end of the world and a coming apocalypse? Will there be a ‘tribulation’ and a ‘rapture’? And what does the Bible really say about the end of the world and the return of Jesus?

These questions keep swirling around—but it is not always easy to find sensible answers.

In this accessible study morning, we will look carefully at the teaching of Jesus, Paul and others in the New Testament to see what they really thought, including:

  • What did people believe in New Testament times?
  • How did Jesus teaching change that?
  • How do we make sense of difficult passages, like Mark 13, Matt 24 and 1 Thess 4?
  • What are the ‘rapture’ and the ‘tribulation’ and are they in the Bible?
  • What is the meaning of the millennium?
  • How is the modern State of Israel connected with the NT?
  • How should we respond to predictions of Jesus’ return?

It turns out that expectation of ‘the end’ was important to the first followers of Jesus—but in ways very different from what we might find in the latest Hollywood blockbuster.

As we approach Advent, with its exploration of the theme of Christian hope, this is a great time to sort out our understanding of this important New Testament idea.

The end will run at Christ Church, Chilwell from 10 to 1, with coffee available from 9.30.

Tickets are available at £9.50 per head for the morning including refreshments; click below to start ordering.

  1. Are you not seeking sponsorship from a prominent firm of Solicitors with banners and clapper boards: “THE END OF THE/ YOUR WORLD IS NEAR – MAKE YOUR WILL AT…
DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE TO THOSE WHO WILL NOT MAKE IT TO THE WORLD TO COME” ?
